Residential Remodel

At Lars Langberg Architects, California

This renovation reimagines a 1970s two-bedroom house with an attached ADU for a professional chef. The design centers around the kitchen, opening it to the living and dining areas by removing the existing fireplace and partition wall.

This renovation reimagines a 1970s two-bedroom house with an attached ADU for a professional chef. The design centers around the kitchen, opening it to the living and dining areas by removing the existing fireplace and partition wall.

The former ADU was integrated into the main house as a master suite, creating a more natural flow between the spaces. At the front, a new gable roof defines the entrance, while the backyard was reworked to create a seamless connection between the living room and patio. Skylights and a new arbor bring more light, character, and connection to the outdoors.

Existing thin white trusses were replaced with warm, wood-stained beams, adding texture and a stronger sense of materiality to the interior.
