This project was developed for a client relocating to Sebastopol, California. Set on a narrow, compact, and steep site overlooking Mount St. Helena, the project combines a two-story primary residence with a small ADU for a tenant.

The limited site area and required setbacks became the central challenge. With little room to separate the two buildings horizontally, I chose to integrate the ADU into the slope, partially burying it into the site and turning its roof into a planted garden. From the terrace above, the view remains focused on Mount St. Helena and the garden rather than the roof of another building. Below, the ADU creates its own quiet and secluded space within the landscape.

The interior centers around an open living space illuminated by a clerestory, with a guest bedroom integrated into the lower level. Upstairs, the primary bedroom and private office are oriented toward views of the mountains.
